Reconstruction in the midst of war
Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has been going on for more than two years. International support is still essential for the resilience of Ukrainians. This applies not only to military, but also to civilian assistance, as German Development Minister Svenja Schulze recently emphasised: ‘Doctors are just as important as tanks.’ This is why, in the midst of war, the reconstruction of energy plants, hospitals and schools is always a priority.
GIZ had been working in Ukraine on behalf of the German Government long before the beginning of Russia’s war against Ukraine and continues to do so. GIZ works on three levels in particular. It provides rapid assistance wherever it is needed. It provides reconstruction support and also assists with reforms that are necessary for Ukraine's EU accession process.
In the following video, GIZ Country Director Daniel Busche talks about the importance of the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2024) taking place in Berlin on 11 and 12 June. He explains exactly what GIZ’s work in Ukraine looks like and the significance of the URC2024 for GIZ employees.
