China [ˈçiːna] bezeichnet einen Staat in Ostasien. Das Wort „China“ leitet sich vom Sanskrit-Wort cīna ab, das auf die Qin-Dynastie zurückgeht. Unter den Qin-Fürsten wurde China 221 v. Chr. geeint und zu einem Kaiserreich. Das Wort „China“ gibt es im Chinesischen selbst nicht. Die Eigenbezeichnung lautet Zhong Guo („Reich der Mitte“).
